In a world where hope has become a rare commodity, it is inspiring to see a film that bases its entire message on the idea that there is still reason for hope, and proves that there will always be a place for it, even if only as an idealistic comforter to ease the hard reality with which we are daily confronted.

There was only a minute between them when Nino and Yasmina were born in the same hospital in Beirut. They fell in love with each other as kids, but their puppy love came to an abrupt end when Yasmina’s parents got divorced. Years later, when Nino is involved in a stupid traffic incident, they meet again. This time they don’t want to lose each other once more, but the political instability in the country puts their relationship to the test.

When it comes to atmosphere, this film is masterful: there is an unusual balance between light and dark, between hope and sadness. The music strengthens the feeling of nostalgia and urgency. The images of the city — vibrant, in ruins, always in motion — add to the powerful, emotional undertow for this beautiful love story. The film is not only heart-warming and romantic, but also an enchanting study of how romance tries to survive in a city where the inhabitants have constantly to face the dilemma of either finding the energy to start over again, or to finally give up.

"De zelfverzekerde regie en dynamische montage leiden ons door een film, die heen en weer springt in de tijd en tussen verschillende visies op het leven, waardoor je als kijker emotioneel betrokken raakt." - Adriana Rosati
