After her critically acclaimed films, such as “Adam” and “Le Bleu du Caftan” de Moroccan film maker Maryam Touzani returns to the festival with “Calle Málaga”, which won the audience award in Venice.

79 year old María Ángeles lives happily in the Spanish neighbourhood of Tangiers. However, her life is turned upside down when her daughter from Madrid comes and decides to sell the house. María is determined to stay in her apartment with all the things that mean so much to her and the memories she cherishes. Then suddenly the unthinkable happens…

This is a real crowd pleaser with an amazing leading role for the legendary Spanish actress Carmen Maura, who shines in the role of María Ángeles. She brings a natural tenderness and humour which completely overcomes you. The setting is beautiful and the architecture, the streets and the light all contribute to the warm and melancholic atmosphere in the film. A film about growing older, about memories, but also about how unexpected meetings can reawaken your life.
