An indigenous Australian teenage girl is abandoned by her mother. What happens next is an uplifting trip off the beaten track, full of unconventional friendships, first loves and self-discovery.

Fifteen-year-old Murra lives with her indigenous family in West-Australia. Because her mother is constantly drinking, her uncle sends her to a camp. As part of the programme, the participating teens can experiment with cameras. Under the scorching sun of the outback, Murra slowly opens up and searches for love and self-acceptance.

‘Sweet As’ is the first feature film by Jub Clerc, a Nyul Nyul/Yawuru woman from West-Australia. Because the story is partly based on experiences from her own childhood, the film has a very authentic feel to it. The beautiful Australian scenery is a sight to behold. This small, loving film stems from a region where not many films are made. That alone makes this title extraordinary.
