An investor is trying to buy up all the houses in an Indonesian village. The local inhabitants, however, are trying to keep their community and traditions alive with invigorating trance meetings. Bayu is in contention to become a trance shaman, but the complicated relationship with his father and the fear of losing their house impede his talents…
“Levitating” has the atmosphere of a fantastic fairytale, while at the same time being deeply rooted in local Indonesian traditions. Throughout the film a social drama unfolds in which a community is threatened by outside economic interests. The film is carried by the invigorating, spectacular and hypnotising music and choreography. The extravagant visual effects make the film a stimulating and dazzling tour de force.
