In the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, day after day, doctor Denis Mukwege takes care of thousands of women who were victims of sexual assault, risking his own life in the process.

The renowned Congolese gynaecologist Denis Mukwege has devoted his entire life to women who are victims of sexual assault. Despite for a long time not seeing eye to eye with him, fellow doctor and atheist Guy-Bernard Cadière supports his humanitarian mission. To guarantee women their dignity and well-being, both the doctors and their staff have to operate, often literally, on the frontline.

A biographic portrayal of a touching story about violence, care and recovery, about humanity and its fight for dignity. With Angelina Jolie assisting in the making of this film as a producer, then the UN ambassador has a good reason to do the same.
