Abu Bakr Shawky

Abu Bakr Shawky is an Egyptian-Austrian filmmaker. He gained a bachelor's degree in Political Science at the American University in Cario and an MFA in Filmmaking at the Tisch School of the Arts of New York University. His earlier films “Yomeddine” (2018) and “Hajjan” (2023) were put on display globally at various international film festivals. “The Stories” (2025) won the Golden Tanit for best film at the Carthage Film Festival and was shown at other festivals, such as the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and the Red Sea International Film Festival.
