This historic epic boldly brings the past of Palestine back to life while at the same time being more relevant than ever: if nothing is learned from the past, it is doomed to repeat itself.

Since 1922, Palestine has been controlled by the British. This encouraged thousands of persecuted Jews to establish their first settlements there. The resistance against the displacement of the local population increases and eventually becomes, in the period from 1936 to 1939, an armed rebellion . Farmers, dockworkers, priests, journalists, Christians and Muslims, all take part in the rebellion. Both young and old fight against the colonial system.

This is a compelling epic, using amazing cinematography, moving imagery and strong performances from actors, both well-known and newcomers. The scenario follows one character after another, gradually revealing mutual connections. The film contains beautiful intermezzi that blast out of the widescreen fictional story, using coloured archive images in a square aspect ratio. This results in on one hand an impressive reliving of an unexplored part of Palestine’s history, while on the other hand, it is a shocking lesson in how the past of Palestine is still relevant to this day.
