The paths of various Malaysian women cross in an adoption clinic. The film makes a modest stand for the position of women in society, and challenges stereotypical ideas of motherhood.

Lai Sum works for an adoption clinic in Malaysia where mothers can anonymously give away their unwanted children through a baby hatch. One day she crosses paths with Siew Man, a pregnant student who is considering abortion. Together they fight against sexual violence and for the safety of women in Malaysian society.

The audience is kept at a distance in this movie about motherhood, making the experience even more powerful. The film treats sensitive topics in a subtle and elegant way, and combines a rigid style with touches of magical realism. Normative narratives about motherhood are questioned and turned into a multi-voiced lullaby with a silence that says more about women’s opinions than words ever could.

"Filmmaker Chong Keat Aun is at it again, turning his typically lyrical, if more urban this time, critical eye on modern Malaysia and the conflicting ideas and beliefs that, while co-existing in relative peace, can be repressive and dangerous for so many – especially women." - Elizabeth Kerr, Kai Fong
