In this unfiltered satire, a financially struggling poet struggles with his past and a class full of uninterested teenagers. A witty view on the world of art, where tragedy and slapstick collide.

Oscar is a poet who is struggling financially. He lives with his sick mother in Medellín while he is wrestling with alcoholism. When trying to recover the bond with his estranged daughter, he starts working as a poetry teacher. He sees talent in his passive student Yurlady, and he tries to act as her mentor, but his clumsy attempts come to grief because she comes from a different social class.

“Un poeta” is a deliciously uncomfortable satire that mercilessly pierces the pretentious bubble of the art world. The beautiful, grainy imagery give the story of Oscar a tangible crudeness and timeless atmosphere. The film is at its best when financial aid and cultural stereotypes clash, leading to hilarious, but also painful moments. An unforgettable, absurd portrait of a man who refuses to grow up.
