Centaur

Fifty-year-old Centaur is a calm and modest man. He has a son who has never spoken a word and his wife is the young deaf and mute Maripa. They lead a simple life in a village in Kyrgyzstan. Although Centaur is well respected by his neighbors, he was once a horse thief. He believes that the Kyrgyz descend from the mythical centaurs, creatures who are half human, half horse, but have lost their freedom, punished by the gods for giving up their nomadic traditions. One day, an expensive racehorse belonging to Centaur's half-brother, the wealthy Karabay, is stolen. He enlists a former Centaur rival to find the horse.
