An exciting espionage thriller that offers a unique look into a hidden world.

Adam is admitted to the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Cairo, a beacon of Sunni Islam. When the Grand Imam dies, it appears that the Muslim brothers and the national security services have opposite interests at heart. Without realising, Adam is recruited to influence the choice for the new Grand Imam. When he discovers the truth, he is stuck in the crossfire.

This suspenseful thriller distinguishes itself effortlessly by shedding a light on an ancient institute that westerners know embarrassingly little about. In addition, ‘Boy from Heaven’ is an exciting dissection of the contrasts between Egypt’s secular government and its religious leaders, so hats off to the director’s courage. No wonder that shooting didn't take place in Cairo, but in Istanbul.

It is an engrossing tale, full of betrayal and chicanery, and it casts the Egyptian political-military complex and the religious hierarchy as riddled with corruption.
