On a remote Scottish island, four young refugees await the answer to their asylum application. In the meantime, Farhad from Afghanistan, Omar from Syria and the brothers Abedi and Wasef from Kenya are not allowed to perform paid labour. They can only wait for the official message whether they are allowed to stay in the country or not. They wait. And wait. And wait.

Ben Sharrock’s film about refugees waiting for their asylum application on a godforsaken Scottish island is extremely funny, deliciously absurd, poetic and very rare. Some scenes make you crack up, while others put such a lump in your throat that days later you cannot unsee them. The characters are multidimensional and anything but stereotypical.
