Talk by Brigitte Herremans & short film “Upshot”

We start with a talk by Middle-East expert Brigitte Herremans, who will give some extra information about the Palestinian context and the themes that are touched upon in the film.

After that there will be the screening of “Upshot”, a short film by Palestinian filmmaker Maha Haj, which premiered at MOOOV Film Festival last year. 

This compelling film follows Suleiman and Mona, a couple that, together with their five children, lives a simple and seemingly peaceful life, surrounded by their animals and olive trees. However, when a journalist comes to visit them and reopens old wounds, it becomes clear how fragile their steady life is. With sober yet powerful and expressive imagery, Maha Haj manages to build a hefty emotional intensity in less than 30 minutes.
