In the darkness of Mumbai, this human and loving story blossoms into a feminist film, grand in its smallness.

Swetha is Thooya’s new roommate. Thooya is an aspiring actor, but she also uses her room for sex work. At first glance Swetha appears to be looking for a husband, but when the tensions between the two start to suggest love, that turns out to mainly be the result of pressure from the outside. The two of them slowly grow closer as they wander through the patriarchal world of Mumbai together.

The film surprises with its expressive intensity and sensitive, personal tone. Almost exclusively, it plays out in the same apartment, without becoming claustrophobic however. Instead daily habits are turned into warm rituals. A warm film about the realities of the patriarchy and a powerful and poetic debut film from this female film maker.

"With sensitivity, Roy invites us to contemplate what it means to truly see another person, and how often we fail to do so, even in our most intimate relationships." - Walter Neto, International Cinephile Society
