Ali and his wife Aysel live in a small village, surrounded by a large lake and vast reed beds. They have to work hard just to make ends meet. On top of that, they are exploited and abused by mafia-like bosses. Ali looks for ways to escape their misery and tries to smuggle reeds illegally. It is a risky business, not without danger.
The landscapes of water and reeds are filmed in a spectacular way. They make the setting just as important as the characters. Thanks to the unique camerawork, the reed beds become a labyrinthine, claustrophobic, and suffocating character in the relentless struggle between good and evil, where the boundaries continue to blur.
