When in 2024 the Iranian film director Sepideh Farsi wants to go to Gaza in order to capture what life is like in the Gaza strip, she is not allowed to cross the border. Fortunately, she comes into contact with Fatma Hassona, a young, talented photojournalist from Gaza City. For more than two hundred days they stay in touch through videocalls, and Fatma offers a rare human perspective on a miserable existence.
A compelling insight which provides an impressive testimony of the genocide in Gaza. The impotency that you experience as a viewer through the eyes of Sepideh Farsi, while at the same time embracing Fatma Hassona’s optimism and joie de vivre, make for an intense viewing experience. The intermezzos, incorporating Fatma’s music, poetry and imagery, are both heart-warming and heartbreaking at the same time.
