Pedágio

DISTRIBUTION

A mother goes to extreme lengths to cure her son of his homosexuality. The price she has to pay for this turns out to be higher than expected.

Suellen just can’t get over the fact that her son has come out as gay. She sends him to therapy with a priest who can cure him of his “illness.” But the costs are mounting, and Suellen, who works at a toll booth on the highway, isn’t exactly rolling in money. She turns to a friend she’d previously caught committing petty theft to help her.

“Pedágio” features many memorable and visually striking moments. The camera angles are original, and the film makes beautiful use of lighting. The story is accessible and compelling. The relationship between the two main characters—mother and son—is subtle, with minimal dialogue.
