The perspective of the protagonist Star exposes the white saviour complex. An intimate story about the polarising effect of (neo)colonialism…

The inhabitants of the Kenyan village Sayit  finally get legal ownership of their land. Star, however, risks losing her property. The property deeds are drawn up on the basis of family ties and Star has no information related to her family background. Star looks around for help and support, but ends up all alone.

This film about exploitation cynically exposes NGO’s, and demonstrates how (neo)colonialism and capitalism divide people. A bold piece of criticism told from the perspective of an independent woman. The saturated colours and ingenious lighting combine to bring the story dynamically and poetically to life.
