Mona was vroeger een uitstekende zangeres uit Noord-Soedan. Ze is getrouwd met een bazige, bezitterige man die haar verbiedt nog te zingen. Ze voelt zich schuldig nadat ze de moord op een jongen door haar echtgenoot verdoezelt. In een poging om haar geweten te sussen, neemt ze de Zuid-Soedanese weduwe en diens zoon in huis. Maar is dat wel een goed idee?

'Goodbye Julia' is een sterke en emotioneel krachtige film met knap camerawerk, goede acteerprestaties en een mooie soundtrack. Ook al speelt de film zich in het verleden af, toch heeft ze een tijdloos karakter en laat ze opnieuw haar licht schijnen op de politieke spanningen tussen Noord- en Zuid-Soedan. De film was een publiekslieveling op het MOOOV Filmfestival 2024.
