The story begins in 1976 in Guatemala City. María, a political activist, witnesses the cold-blooded, broad daylight murder of her husband by the police. She narrowly escapes to Mexico, having to leave her baby, Marco, behind with her mother. Ten years later, her mother and the now ten-year-old Marco visit her in Mexico City.
Based on autobiographical experiences, the director finds a balance between a political thriller and an emotional family drama. Although the situation described is unsettling, the story is told with the necessary sensitivity, without excessive drama. This is a film where everything works: a well-balanced script, carefully crafted editing, and strong performances.
