It Was Just an Accident

This film won the prestigious Palme d’Or at the film festival in Cannes and was, like previous Panahi films, made without the permission of the Iranian regime.

Vahid is working when a customer with engine problems comes into his garage. He is shocked when he thinks he recognises Eghbal, the officer who tortured him in prison. Together with his fellow ex-prisoners Vahid is out for revenge, but is the man really who they think he is? How do they know they have got the right person?

Panahi is an experienced Iranian film maker, an important advocate for democracy, who keeps getting arrested and even imprisoned. Despite being banned from making films, he continues to produce them anyway and is globally revered for it. This is probably his most emotionally explicit film yet: a film about state violence, resulting in a thriller which combines revenge, humour and humanity. Once again an impressive film from one of the most striking, and more importantly, courageous figures in world cinema.
