An impressive film and not even 80 minutes long, full of themes such as: misogyny, abuse of power, corruption, ethics, patriarchy etc.

Ankara, 1999. Arza is working at a sex line when Istanbul is suddenly hit by an earthquake. The man who she is talking to on the phone, is trapped under the rubble and begs for her for help. Arzu knows who she ough to call, but she would have to put her own life at risk…

A claustrophobic, psychological thriller that all takes place during one night, at one location and with one protagonist, because the other characters are merely off-screen voices. In this film the makers criticise male hypocrisy, the violence that hides behind masks, the corrupt elite, the toxic infection running through the younger generations and the overall atmosphere of fear, subjugation and wicked secrets in Turkey.

Net als in hun ongepolijste plattelandsdrama Sibel portretteren de filmmakers een vrouw die zich probeert te ontworstelen aan knellende sociale normen. Die beknelling voel je in elk strak kader en elke extreme close-up.
