Not your average film, but an intense and compelling experience of infinity and claustrophobia.

While trying to leave a metro station, a man finds out that his only way out is if he manages to find exit 8. What follows is a mysterious puzzle with seemingly simple rules. If he sees something strange, he has immediately to turn round. If he doesn’t see anything out of the ordinary he can keep going. But one mistake, one missed anomaly and he has to start all over again. Does he find a way out of the endless passageway?

“Exit 8” is the cinema version of the video game with the same name from 2023, with an equally simple premise as the movie: escape the passageway. Furthermore, the movie has actually recreated the entire set, including the stoic man. What fundamentally changes the movie, however, is that the man is an actual character, in a very ingenious way. He just got a call from his ex-girlfriend. She’s in the hospital and has discovered that she is pregnant. He has asthma and his cough is suffocatingly irritating at times. The sterile hallways, the endless yellow lines on the floor and the recurring posters cause complete disorientation. “Exit 8” is an atypical horror movie, that gives the viewer a false sense of security, only to then, with a subtle change, a brief scream or an ordinary standing man completely  change the atmosphere and scare the hell out of us.

"De gameverfilming ‘Exit 8’ is even raadselachtig als een bizarre nachtmerrie, en ook een tikje filosofisch." - De Standaard
