Flowers from the Margins

Short films are also only viewed in their own habitat. That’s why this short film compilation takes four short films from the margin, and puts them front and centre.

The margin is where the stories of the people who have beene driven there are born.
Diaspora communities are uprooted from their lands, being queer is only allowed in the shadows. But there, in the margin, is where those people blossom, love grows and resilience emerges.

Two stories from Palestine and two stories from the queer community, together strike a balance between reality and poetry. The four short films provide a brief but powerful new perspective on deracination. Together this compilation of short films forms a strong retelling of hard realities, followed by more poetic sequences. Toughness and softness complement each other and all four films shine in their short but powerful narrative. Additionally, the winner of the Iris Prize, “One Day This Kid”, was included in the selection. It is the biggest short film prize in the world, though it is often overlooked. The four films are beautiful flowers from the margins, through both their context and their content. The films provide a refreshing new view on deracination.
