With the series Doctalks, De Republiek and Cinema Lumière aim to start a constructive dialogue through documentaries that provide lots of food for thought. This edition fits perfectly into the MOOOV Film Festival, which once again brings together the very best of world cinema in Bruges.

In “Cutting Through Rocks” we follow Sara Shaverdi, a strong woman who lives in North-Western Iran. As the first female councilmember of her village she aims to limit child marriages and guarantee education for girls, but she also wants to finally arrange the long-anticipated gas pipe. Not an easy task in a country where women are discriminated against, and on top of that she doesn’t have much support from the community.

The documentary won an award at the Sundance Film Festival and was also nominated for the Oscars.

After the screening of the documentary Mieke Dumon will have a guest with two guests.
