‘Innocence’ sensitively portrays the drama of Israeli teens being prepared to fight for their country.

In Israel everybody knows what it means to turn eighteen: serving in the army. And that is not without danger. In this documentary, voice actors read diary excerpts of young soldiers who died for their country. They express their fears and struggle with the imposed violence, that leaves no space for their own principles.

In order to question the immense pressure on teenagers, this film uses personal testimonials of recruits who have committed suicide. A well-considered, broad focus with home videos, letters, poems and drawings results in a documentary that conveys a touching lament on the young victims. At the same time ‘Innocence’ is a powerful denunciation of Israel’s military madness.
