‘Argentina, 1985’ is an exciting court film about the process against the Argentinian military junta of the eighties. At the same time, this historic document draws a lot of parallels with the current abuse of power in South-America.

On the 24th of March 1976, a military junta seizes power in Argentina. What follows is a right-wing reign of terror with countless executions and murders. A few years later, the young, ambitious lawyer Julio Strassera is determined to bring the former military leaders to justice. In order to do so, he has to show a big portion of patience, willpower and courage.

Court dramas can be cold and distant, but ‘Argentina, 1985’ manages to strike a balance between justice and emotion. One of Argentina’s greatest actors, Ricardo Darín, shows us his best side. The film also includes archival footage and gripping testimonies. This heart-breaking story does not only portray fear and injustice, but also truth and courage.
