Japanese society is growing older. Young people have the feeling they are being disadvantaged by the rising costs for elderly care. Tensions rise and some nursing homes are even attacked by terrorists. The government decides to offer a programme to its elderly population: from the age of 75, people can voluntarily sign up for euthanasia, in order to serve the ‘greater good’.

‘Plan 75’ is a fierce denunciation of a world in which people are discarded as disposable goods. At the same time, the film is emotional and makes you think about life and death. Indirectly, the story calls for more and better care of the elderly population. The scenes are refined and the camera work is nothing short of magnificent.
