The elderly couple Virginio and Sisa live in the vast Andean highlands. He takes care of their herd of llamas, she fetches the water. That last task becomes more challenging by the day …

The very old Virginio lives with his wife Sisa in the vast Andean highlands. He takes care of a herd of llamas and she goes to fetch water every day from a well. But because of global climate change, the periods of drought last longer and longer and water is harder to come by. How long can they keep on living in this dry wasteland?

‘Utama’ is a simple film about traditions and different life cycles that are intertwined with nature. Especially because of the wonderful imagery, this universal story leaves a strong impression.
