This modern Japanese film is inspired by the eponymous song by Akiko Yano from 1991. The story is about Taeko and her husband Jiro, who are confronted with love and life.

When a married couple loses their son in a tragic accident, both the husband and the wife resort to their former lovers. This film deals with processing an abruptly terminated relationship. With a lot of patience and empathy, the underlying drama is unravelled. Inspired by the eponymous song by Akiko Yano from 1991, ‘Love Life’ introduces us to a domestic idyll, cruelly disrupted by a deceptive nonchalance.

‘Love Life’ is not a romantic feelgood film, but a story full of emotion. The music, the cinematography and Fumino Kimura’s strong performance as Taeko do not fail to impress. This film is for viewers with a feel for relationship ordeals. The moralistic ending to the sound of the eponymous song is a bit cliché, but it is only a small stain on this beautiful, modest film.
