Is there life after Kiarostami?

Point of view
Wed 21 Apr 21 19:30

The internationally acclaimed filmmaker left his mark on the art of filmmaking. Rooted in a rich history of Iranian cinema he was part of the post-revolution generation of filmmakers who boosted Iran’s status as one of the most cinematically fascinating countries. Kiarostami’s legacy is praised internationally, yet he paid special attention to the Iranian artists who came after him. Partially under the influence of Kiarostami's and his contemporaries' (Makhmalbaf, Naderi, Panahi, Majidi, Bani-Etemad, …) films, a new generation of talented filmmakers has blossomed in Iran, they have found success both in and outside of their home country. May MOOOV’s selection of films this year be a witness. Sachli Gholamalizad, Mashid Mohadjerin, Maryam Kamal Hedayat and Mahdieh Fahim, all active in the Flemish cultural sector, discuss Iran and its cinema, how they have inherited, discovered and rediscovered it.
