‘Nayola’ portrays the horrors of war from a female perspective. The characters play an active role, either in the battle field or in the resistance.

Three generations of women are differently affected by the war in Angola. Nayola is looking for her missing husband. Her daughter Yara is being accused of political activities. Grandmother Lelena tries to calm things down. The common thread in the story is the indestructible love that these women feel for each other.

An animated film is able to explore the horrors of war in ways that other film genres struggle to achieve. ‘Nayola’ is gripping in all its facets and is characterised by a remarkable graphic style, a strong use of colour and an intense sound design.
