Fourteen-year-old Zeina and her family belong to the last inhabitants remaining in the besieged city of Damascus. A missile smashes a hole in their house, suddenly exposing them to the outside world. Zeina is allowed her first taste of freedom: she sleeps under the stars and makes a surprising friend. But it doesn’t take long before the violence in the streets rises again.
The sunny images of a bombed Damascus convey an almost fairy-tale like portrait of the hard choice between believing in a hopeful life in Syria and the uncertain existence as a refugee.
Kaadan's beautifully poetic film is a fable of two women, the men who love them and the power and magic that love carries with it.
