A widow has a troubled relationship with her son. When he cancels their trip to Korea, she gathers her courage for her first ever solo travel. Will she (re)discover her new self?

Auntie is a widow living with her son, with whom she has a troubled relationship. Her joy in life are Korean television shows and the prospect of a round trip through Korea. When her son cancels the trip, she gathers her courage for her first ever solo travel, but it doesn’t take long before everything goes away. With a smile and a tear, she bravely embarks on her adventure.

‘Ajoomma’ beautifully depicts the successful Korean pop culture, for example when elderly ladies do their aerobics in the park to the sound of famous K-pop hits. But the film is all but light-hearted: the adventures of this single woman awaken many emotions. It is a sensitive film about human nature and the search for inner peace and quiet.
