'Mountain' is poetic, visually very beautiful and the performances are very strong. A clever debut by a young female filmmaker.

Jerusalem. A devout young woman lives with her husband and children near the cemetery on the Mount of Olives. Her husband is a deeply religious teacher. He is always writing or reading. When the woman is alone during the day, she walks in the cemetery, the burial place of Jews, Christians and Muslims. She has a chat with the Arab gravedigger and with tourists. Much to her frustration, her husband no longer covets her. Overcoming with loneliness, she sneaks out of the house to wander the cemetery in the dark. When she witnesses a sex scene, she is completely confused. At night, the graveyard is the home of drunken tramps, prostitutes and drug dealers. A new world that both frightens and attracts her opens up for her and she begins a double life: when everyone is asleep, she goes outside; during the day she tries to be the normal housewife, until it is no longer possible ...
